DocBook is an XML vocabulary that lets you create documents in a presentation-neutral form that captures the logical structure of your content. Using free tools along with the DocBook XSL stylesheets, you can publish your content as HTML pages and PDF files, and in many other formats.

The FAQ provides a wealth of practical guidance on real-world use of DocBook.

DocBook.org is the official home for DocBook: The Definitive Guide (also known as TDG). The site provides two online versions of TDG:

The DocBook.org site is also the unofficial location from which you can download the DocBook schema/DTD.

The DBLaTeX project is a separate project from the DocBook project. They provide a command-line dblatex tool that you can use as an alternative to generating and processing XSL-FO output from the DocBook Project FO stylesheets.

dblatex is not yet complete, but it is in active development and is already mature enough to produce quality PDF output from a wide range of DocBook document instances.
